Nürburgvada or Nevadaschleife?

Las Vegas already has a copy of the Eiffel tower, albeit only half the size of the original. Now, it looks like there might be a new project on the way. But this time, it's the Eifel with one 'f' that's targetted: the (in)famous Nürburgring Nordschleife!

Bruton Smith, CEO of Speedway Motorsports Inc. (SMI), recently announced on SiriusXM Sports that his company is considering building a full-size clone of the Nordschleife just outside Las Vegas. Since SMI already owns and operates eight first-class racing facilities in the USA, they're probably not joking about that new project. Actually, they've approached Nevada officials and the Nevada Bureau of Land Management to try getting 8'000 acres (about 32 km2) of land. As you can see on this map, that's pretty much the area needed to enclose the Nordschleife.

Now, replicating the elevation changes will be quite a huge challenge for the builders.

If this becomes reality, don't expect to see the same kind of racing that's taking place ot the original Nordschleife (VLN, RCN, etc). The facility would rather be used as a test track for manufacturers and would of course be opened to the public as well.

Very exciting project indeed! And we'll definitely keep a eye on it.

But... what would be the Nordschleife without its well-known sudden weather changes, rain, snowfall, fog, etc.?
